Cynthia Ingram and Hailey Ramkaran will be participating as judges at this year’s 5th Annual Hawks Cup, being held at Wilfrid Laurier University's Waterloo Campus on November 9th and 10th! The case for this year’s competition is the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in R. v. Greater Sudbury (City), 2023 SCC 28.
2024 has brought an abundance of new legislation, some pivotal case law, and new trends. With various iterations of the working for workers’ statutes that have been passed or merely proposed, it is dizzying to keep on top of current legislation and what’s actually in force. In addition, a decision from the Ontario Superior Court in February caused many employers to remove what used to be fairly common language in termination provisions, but a recent decision provides an example of a provision upheld by the court.
